ParaUnaBuenaVida.com is a campaign that began in Austin, TX. The idea for this campaign ignited when educational research performed by CommuniCard® LLC with the Spanish only speaking community, revealed that many parents were not familiar with the economic value of a high school diploma. Parents did not realize that dropping out of high school cut their child’s lifetime earning potential by more than half. They were not aware that their child could quadruple their lifetime earnings by graduating from college. They also did not know that bilingual graduates were much sought after in the job market.
CommuniCard®’s President and CEO, Sylvia Acevedo, knew that a specific campaign was needed to reinforce the value of education. Working with the Bilingual Department of the Austin Independent School district, CommuniCard® organized a collaboration of non-profit organizations and the Spanish language media to actively promote the messages of the Para Una Buena Vida campaign of education is the key to economic prosperity.
Austin’s non-profit educational community, led by Austin Partners in Education, E3 Alliance, CAN and the United Way, have provided training for their non-profit organizations and community on the messages of the Para Una Buena Vida campaign.
The Office of Bilingual Education at AISD has been instrumental in providing guidance, support and development of this campaign and messages.
- The Austin area Spanish language media, Univision Television/Radio, BMP, ESPN deportes and the Austin Statesman’s Ahora Si have come together to promote the concept of economic prosperity through education in the Para Una Buena Vida campaign.
- A signature tactic of the Para Una Buena Vida campaign is the verbal communication of the message and frequent reinforcement of the importance of education.
